Can choosing a Wireframing Tool be fun?

Last week I got the task of trying out a new wireframing tool. I was supposed to find out how it generally performs and if this specific wireframing tool would be suitable for our project. The wireframing tool we had chosen within the team was an online prototyping tool. As our company works across all corners of the globe, reliable collaboration features were what we were looking for. For this reason, we chose to test online wireframing tools, where sharing projects is much easier than with desktop applications.

Wireframing Tool: Ready, Steady, Go

My boss gave me almost one week to use the wireframing tools and give my verdict in time for our next big project. First I created a wireframe based on our company’s website. The UI design of the wireframe software was easy to understand and everything worked perfectly. Our homepage was quickly recreated. Then I got bored and started to exhaust different features – for example I zoomed in and put a lot of different toggle sections really close to each other. To test the collaboration features I asked a colleague to help me during our lunch break. We sat towards everybody in front of the computer. I had prepared a prototype to play chess. In the beginning we concentrated a lot, but then we realized how funny it was to see chessmen moving on your screen, knowing the person in front of you is navigating it. In the end the whole team came into our office to see why we were laughing so much. Testing out this wireframing tool actually did turn out to be a lot of fun.
